Wellstar Cancer Network Survivorship Seminar Presents a virtual presentation on
How to Support Children Through a Parent or Loved One's Cancer
Carissa Hodgson, LCSW, OSW-C, Director of Programs and Community Outreach at Bright Spot Network
Oct 26, 2023 11am - 12pm
When someone is diagnosed with cancer, it affects their entire family system. When children are involved, adults often worry about how to manage their questions and feelings.
What will they tell them about the cancer diagnosis and treatment?
How will they explain it?
What can they do to help the children process their feelings?
There are many tools parents, grandparents and other adults can use to help children navigate a parent or loved one's cancer, including using intentional language and children's books to introduce the concept of cancer, organizing a small intimate care team and predictable schedule for children, and finding creative ways to maintain physical contact and quality time with children even through cancer treatment.
Join this webinar for more tools and resources that are aimed at helping all children, from infancy through adolescence.
