Rekindle & Renew (R & R): A Virtual Meet-Up for Couples
A Quarterly Meet-up Group for Couples Navigating a Cancer Diagnosis
2024 Dates
Thursday, October 10th @ 5 pm PT/6 pm MT/7 pm CT/8 pm ET, 90 minutes
Thursday, June 20th @ 5 pm PT/6 pm MT/7 pm CT/8 pm ET, 90 minutes
Cancer has a way of inserting itself into your partnership like an unwanted third wheel, nagging you from the backseat while you navigate this new territory. Negotiating new roles and expectations, upended schedules, intense feelings, insecurities, sex and intimacy are all new pit stops along the way. It may feel like none of your couple friends can relate–they have no idea what it’s like to juggle cancer along with the other natural relationship ups and downs. We see you. We have a space for you.
Who is this group for?
This meet-up group is for couples: cancer patients in their 20s, 30s and 40s AND their partners. Your cancer diagnosis may be new or years old. We know that couples look very different. This space is safe and welcoming of all partners, including same-sex, polyamorous, monogamous, married, dating, cohabiting or separated.
Each meeting will have a theme to guide discussion.
October 10th Meeting Theme: Role Shifts: It’s hard when partners become caregivers, and the person with cancer feels dependent or helpless. There are new expectations and routines. Communication may get muddled as feelings intensify and patience wears thin. We will focus discussion on these common struggles and how you cope with the changes.
June 20th Meeting Theme: Sex & Intimacy
The group is co-facilitated by Lillian Dugan, LCSW, Director of Programs at Dear Jack Foundation and Carissa Hodgson, LCSW, OSW-C, Director of Programs and Community Outreach at Bright Spot Network.
